I'm still not riding regularly, but today I rode the Hojack trail on my fat tire uni.  Not having ridden, my saddle was uncomfortable and I was feeling saddle sore quickly.
The trail was mostly dry but had some muddy ruts here and there.
I started at the North Ponds Park parking lot along the Hojack trail.  I rode the Hojack then cut through Vosburg to the Big Field, did a lap, and came back.

I noticed some minor trail improvements.  The steep hill trail leading up the Big Field from Vosburg has been changed to a switch back.  It's real nice, but still has some steep parts and I wasn't in shape enough to climb it all.  Maybe next time. I did ride the Overlook trail connected to the Big Field, so at least I hit a bit of real single-track.

I saw four teenager boys in Vosburg and one said "Mr. Weetman"!?  They were some of Kyle's friends.  We said hi for a minute.  Other than that, I saw a fox and a number of walkers and cyclists.

Big Field

I rode today at the Big Field trail.  A few days ago it was 20F out but today it was over 60F!  I'm sure we'll go back to freezing and have a bunch more snow before Spring, so it was good to get out.
Trail sections varied from wet, muddy, slushy, icy, snowy and grassy.  It was very windy in some areas.  My fat tire uni was a good choice.  I rode 4 laps for a total of about 4.5 miles.  Being the first ride of the year I will most definitely be muscle sore and saddle sore.

Starting Cardio

I won't blog about every workout I do, but this evening was my first cardio workout in a long time.  I did a shorter one, but it was tough for me.  I can tell I'm not in great shape.

Yesterday I did my second Stronglifts 5x5 day.
At this rate I'll be the Incredible Hulk by the Spring.

Starting to Workout

I cleaned up my basement workout area today.
I'm starting with Stronglift 5x5, which I had done in the past.  It's all barbell exercises, starting with relatively low weight and slowly adding 5 pounds each session.  The workouts are 3 days a week.  I'll add in cardio at some point too.

My goal is to get stronger for muni in the spring.  A long term goal might be to ride with Steveyo and Robi in the Whiteface Uphill Bike Race on June 4th.  $70 to register?!!  Geez!

Sold the Geared 29er

Three years ago I bought the geared 29er from one of my Albany friends, Steveyo.  He wasn't riding it enough and it's a pricey item to have hanging in the garage.
Over the years when I've seen Steveyo at events he would asked how the 29er was doing and joked about buying it back.  He was joking, right?
Several weeks ago Steveyo emailed me to say hi and, again perhaps tongue-in-cheek, asked if I wanted to sell the geared 29er back to him.  I haven't been riding so I decided it was fine, and decided he would.  I always thought of it as Steveyo's even though I bought it.  Even the Schlumpf hub has his name on it from the factory (they do that).

Today Steveyo was passing through the Rochester area so we met up.  So now the geared 29er is on its way to Albany.

There's a good chance I'll buy another 29er once I get back into it.
