Tryon 2010-05-29

I rode at Tryon this morning. It was a good ride and I made good progress. Lots of downhills with roots and rocks.
I took some video I'll have to edit and post soon.

Dryer 2010-05-28

I took the day off, making it a 4 day Memorial Day weekend.
After Kyle got on the bus, I went to Dryer Rd Park.
I tried a few new trails. Owl's Maze is never ending!! You can see on the map below it's got a lot of switchbacks. I rode Kasha on my last downhill. Good trail.
And once I was warmed up, I made it up the "Gravel Pit Road".

For the record: I rode the Gravel Pit Road, Tree Beard, Ziggy, Tree Beard, Owls Maze, SSW, Betty Loop, Epping Forest, Moon Valley, Ziggy, Gully Down, Gravel Pit Road, and Kasha. I wish I could easily overlay the trails and names on the map.

Evening Progress

Tonight I rode around the block with Syd. She made it the entire way with no UPD!
It's 0.6 miles around. Nice job Syd!

Also, I've been practicing my idling lately and tonight I got to 100 rocks!!
My leg on the lower pedal was killing me at the end, and so I stopped right at 100.
Hopefully I'll learn to ease up on that leg.

Whiting This Morning

I rode at Whiting this morning. I felt like I had more stamina than in the past and more skill. I almost made it through both the orange and yellow trails completey, but each has a steep hill at the end.
Going from south to north on the yellow trail is definitely the way to go for me.
I also went over the the Midnight trail, and down one trail in Webster Park.
Soon I should try riding more in Webster Park and map it out a bit with my gps.

East Bay Video

Here's some video from my ride last weekend at East Bay.
I had it half edited, so I finished it up. It's nothing too special. It's just for the record.

Fun at Tryon

I rode at Tryon this morning and had a great time. I started at the south end at the Browncroft apartments and worked my way north. Tryon has a lot of hills, but a fair number of rolling trails with technical obstacles like roots, natural steps, and rocks. I feel like I did better than ever today: making it down some fairly technical hills (though sometimes taken 5-10 attempts) and just generally making it through rooty and rocky areas without UPD'ing.

In the area just north of the apartments, I made it across two different planks that have been laid across a muddy area and a stream. It was on my way out and my camera was out of memory, so I don't have the video to prove it. Maybe next time.

I saw two mountain bikers, one who just said hey, and another one who stopped to talk. He was Matt from the Tryon forums, and he figured I was the muni guy from the forums. He gave me some directions for some trails in the area. Nice guy. Thanks Matt!

Weekend Riding

Saturday I rode at the "Irondequoit Bay County Park East".
I expected it to be too hilly for my liking. I rode miles of flat trails, but there were too many big hills, too often. I probably won't go back for a long time.
It would be cool if I could find the best path through, minimizing steep ascents. I like hills but some of these were hard to even walk up.

Sunday I rode at Dryer Park in Victor. I showed up at 10:30am and found the parking lot pretty full. Specialized was there with their demo tent and people were test riding.
It's a big place though, so I didn't get in the way of other riders too much.
I heard some comments... a lot of "That's hardcore!", and some noticed the brake and camera.

Run 4 UTH Invasion

Yesterday I arrived at Whiting Road Nature Preserve and found the Browncroft Community Church was having their "Run 4 UTH" event there.
I didn't know how much of the trails they'd be on so I rode there anyway and encountered a whole lot of runners along the way. They all seemed glad to see something interesting. I wonder if the word "unicycle" was mentioned at their church this morning. ;-)

It was one of my longest rides ever at about 5.75 miles in about 2 hours:

I got up one hill I never had before, successfully used my brake to control my descent on a bunch of hills, and rode the yellow and red trails, the more difficult trails at Whiting.
Some parts of the yellow and red trails have hills way too steep for me to ever get up, but I hope to someday be good enough to ride most of them. I walked more than I'd prefer.

My leg muscles are sore today. It was a good workout.
I'll have to post some video of my ride when once I do some editing.
